This will be the third year that NA Rotary Club funds went to support the Chamblee Charter High School (CCHS) VEX Robotics and Electric Car programs. We are providing needed funds to underwrite the cost of additional equipment offering upgrading opportunities to both the robots and electric cars students build. Both programs continue to expand drawing creative and inquisitive students into the program. The Electric Car program is now the model for all DeKalb County Schools.
CCHS hosted three Robotic tournaments at which NARotary provided volunteers for judging and general event support. The VEX Robotics Tournament was held on November 5th, PP Dr Ralph Peeler and a prospective member were judges. Thirty eight teams from throughout the area were in competition!
The First Lego League Robotics Tournament was held on December 3rd for students in 3rd through 8th grade. The creativity exhibited from this next generation of young engineers, reflected in their designs and presentations was phenomenal and inspirational.
CCHS's 2nd Annual VEX Robotics Tournament held on January 16th. For the first time CCHS teams put forward 6 robots of which five placed in the top 25 for qualification rounds and four placed in the quarterfinal round. Rotarian Gary Guan expressed that this event was a wonderful expression of ingenuity and combined cooperation from our future innovators and engineers!
NA Rotarians participated on the CCHS Technology Advisory Board and presented and mentored students at the Technology Career Fair. Ms Gant, CCHS Tech Dept Chair is our "Teacher of the Year", awarded at the DeKalb Rotary Council Awards Banquet.
