Past Program
Sandy Springs Police Chief - Ken DeSimone

February 7th, 2022 Sandy Springs Police Chief Ken DeSimone visited Sandy Springs Rotary Club to give us on an update on all of the great things the Sandy Springs Police Department do for our community.

Sandy Springs Police Department Chief of Police Kenneth DeSimone leads the Department, bringing more than 30 years of law enforcement experience to the position. Chief DeSimone previously served with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department in Charlotte, North Carolina. His assignments have included uniform patrol, investigations, training, waterborne enforcement, street crimes unit, Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), organized crime and intelligence units. Chief DeSimone served as the Deputy Chief of the Sandy Springs Police Department for 4 1/2 years before being promoted to Chief of Police in 2013.

Chief DeSimone presented the Club with informative(and at time shocking) updates on the state of affairs with crime in Sandy Springs, Atlanta, and across America. While many Police Departments across America are undergoing major officer shortages, Sandy Springs Police Department is currently only 5 officers short of a full roster.

We also learned about the Citizens on Patrol (COPS) program offered by the Sandy Springs Police Department. The Citizens on Patrol program offers interested residents a volunteer opportunity to partner with the Sandy Springs Police Department. This popular program allows citizens, who have received advanced training, the opportunity to assist at traffic accident scenes to direct traffic, assist public works by directing traffic at work sites, participate in traffic control at public events, and conduct residence and business checks when the owners are out of town. If you are interested in learning more on COPS or would like to get involved you can find more information here https://www.sandyspringsgapolice.gov/citizen-participation/volunteer-programs/citizens-on-patrol-cops

Thank you for coming to speak to the Club and for all of your service to the Sandy Springs community chief DeSimone!

To support the Sandy Springs Police and all the great things they do in our community consider buying some merchandise or a yard sign from the Sandy Springs Police Benevolent Fund. The Sandy Springs Police Benevolent Fund is a non-profit 501(c) (3) charitable organization designed to help law enforcement officers and their families in times of crisis: http://www.sspbf.org/shop
